FALL SEMESTER
Welcome to the SPS Wine School! Join us on the following Wednesday evenings in the “Wine Cellar” Studio at The 1850 House in Southbury, CT. Each class will include: a guided lesson, course materials, six wines and light fare. Classes begin at 6:30 and will run approximately 90 minutes. Seating is limited, call SPS to reserve your spot!
September 15th – Wine 101
A basic overview of the many facets of wine and wine consumption. What is wine? Developing your sense of taste Serving wine and glassware “Handling” wine
October 13th – Varieties, styles, and the effects of “Terroir”
There are thousands of grape varietals grown today. In this session we break down the basics and discuss the differing styles. The 10 grape varietals every wine drinker MUST know Traditional vs Modern Still, sparkling, and fortified wine
November 10th – Old World Wines
Bordeaux, Burgundy, Tuscany, Piedmont, Rioja, Mosel – receive an introduction to see who’s who from across the pond. Northern Europe: France, Germany, Austria Mediterranean: Italy, Greece, Iberian Peninsula (Spain & Portugal)
December 8th –New World Wines
Wines produced outside the traditional winegrowing areas of Europe – meet the new kids on the block. The Americas – United States, Argentina, Chile The South Pacific – Australia, New Zealand South Africa
